VO China announces that it will contribute US billion to a Silk Road Fund
INTRO: China has announced that it will contribute US billion to a Silk Road Fund aiming to finance the construction of infrastructure projects to link markets across Asia.
STORY: Chinese President Xi Jinping was speaking at a dialogue in Beijing recently with leaders from Laos, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Cambodia, Mongolia and Tajikistan during the key APEC summit.
Lao President Choummaly Sayasone led a high-level Lao delegation to attend the summit in Beijing where he met with his Chinese counterpart and leaders from across the region.
According to Chinese President Xi, the new Silk Road Fund will be used to provide investment and financing support to carry out infrastructure, resources, industrial cooperation, financial cooperation and other projects related to connectivity for countries along the “Belt and Road.”
The Silk Road (Silk Route) is a series of trade and cultural transmission routes that were central to cultural interaction through the regions of the Asian continent connecting the West and East by linking traders, merchants, pilgrims and urban dwellers from China and India to the Mediterranean Sea during various periods of time.
During the APEC meeting, the Lao President Choummaly Sayasone also held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Vice President Li Yuanchao to discuss how to strengthen their cooperative relations. During the bilateral talks, the two sides discussed how to cement their cooperation in depth notably the issues related to the economic corridor and Silk Road project. They also discussed how to further strengthen comprehensive strategic cooperative partnerships between Laos and China based on mutual benefits and a win-win approach.
