Japan gives a Yen Loan Package amounting to approximately 46 Billion rupees and a Grant Aid amounting to three Billion rupees.
The 40th Yen Loan Package will finance four major infrastructure projects. These are the Provincial/Rural Road Development Project, the Eastern Province Water Supply Development Project, the Kandy City Wastewater Management Project and additional financing for Upper Kotmale Hydro Power Project. The loans under this scheme are offered on concessionary terms and conditions.
The Grant Aid of three Billion rupees is for the Improvement of Central Functions of Jaffna Teaching Hospital. It covers the construction of facilities to enhance the central functions of the hospital. Japan hopes these projects will contribute to improving the living conditions of the people all over Sri Lanka including rural areas as well as the North and the East creating a firm foundation for sustainable development in Sri Lanka.
The agreement was signed by Finance Secretary Dr. P.B.Jayasundera and Japans Ambassador Kunio Takahashi at the Finance Ministry.
