The German finance minister has expressed skepticism about reaching a financial deal with Greece by Monday.
Wolfgang Schaeuble says the Eurogroup does not want a Grexit, but it’s not willing to do absolutely anything to keep Greece in the single currency bloc. He said the Greek government coffers are running out of cash and anything could happen. Schaeuble, however, warned that Athens needs to abide by what has been agreed for more bailout funds to be released. Athens has been under pressure to impose reforms for creditors to unblock bailout loans worth seven-point-two billion euros. The government has so far said it will not back down from red lines on labor protection and wage cuts. Greece risks going bankrupt as coffers run out of funds, while a May-12 deadline to repay creditors almost a billion euros in debt looms.
